I started my own business (The Glass Man Window Washing) because I wanted to deliver the quality care I expect to receive in my own home.
At the end of 2004, I took a job cleaning windows when I saw an advertisement in the paper. This was my first peek into the industry, and I immediately noticed the astonishing lack of empathy in the business.
The main problem was that we were rushed from one job to the next.
We weren’t given the amount of time needed to complete a job with excellence, or with care. As a result, clients would constantly complain about dirty floors, streaks on the windows, incomplete jobs, etc. This upset me; I wanted to do better. I wanted to provide the kind of service I would want my grandmother to have.
So, I went off on my own and created The Glass Man Window Washing
I started cleaning windows for family, friends, friends of friends, and slowly, by word of mouth, my client base grew. Within a year, I was working full-time, 5 to 6 days a week. At this point, I knew that what had started off as a job was now a business. So, I studied locally. I got two bachelor’s degrees in business and economics, then a master’s degree in business administration. I hired people. I bought better equipment and taller ladders.
Throughout all these years, I have learned that if you provide people with real value, you’re going to be busy. Clients often ask us what they have to do to prepare their home for us before we come to do a job. I always love telling them that they don’t have to do a thing—that’s the beauty of hiring a professional. We will pay attention to all the little things so you don’t have to, and we will do so with care.
